Some views from Chartwell. Westerham, Kent
One of my favourite places in Kent is the family home of Winston Churchill.
I share his birthday date so it is like a pilgrimage to honour him and a fondness for his fatherly example, and strong war time leadership, that draws us back every so often.
It was rainy and sunny but we had umbrellas!
The countryside was for a time, veiled in mist and we did get a drenching but again loved the beauty of the house and garden, and listened to a well crafted 15 minute talk about why painting was so vital to Winston, as a form of creativity and relaxation.
He was 40 when he first started exploring painting and he developed a passion for using bright, bold colours. I could feel the joy and love he put into his creations, the light and strong architecture.
This heron was a wonderful joy to see, and my sister, Deanna and I both took a few photos before he or she, flew across the lake.
The eatery was very busy as the schools were on holiday, but we got some lovely sandwiches and crisps and sat on the terrace, in the drizzle!
