bad to the bone
drove to davenport tonight to see george thoroughgood and the destroyers at the adler theatre. though not a huge george thoroughgood fan, i know most of his songs, mainly because any rock-based radio station here must have a quota to maintain of gt tracks per hour.
in fact, my boss and i were at the bar the other night when "one bourbon, one scotch, one beer" aired, and i said "wonder what he's up to these days?" the boss, on his dash back to chicago to catch his flight, heard yet another gt song and then the announcement that they were playing in the area on sunday. seeming as though this were some strange sort of fate, i figured i'd go. besides, what else was i going to do in iowa tonight?
the show was decent (albeit short), and i have to say he's a pretty good showman. the setlist was predicatable of course, and once again i'd found myself at a seated rock concert (the other night i saw "pink floyd experience" in a silent, seated auditorium). being a picky music fan who expects spontaneous performance and crowds that border on mental, this left me looking quickly for the door.
definitely looking forward to the phish reunion in now only 5 days.
