Today's the day …………………….. for the family album

All the celebrations today to mark the 75 years since the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944, made me think about my Mum and Dad.

Life for them - and everyone else - must have been so different from anything that we experience nowadays.  In 1944, my mother was a newly qualified teacher living at home in Motherwell, Lanarkshire.  My Dad was in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy (see extra) somewhere far away.  They had met by this time - and might even have been engaged - but they didn't marry until 1947 when the war was over.

I don't know when the picture of them above was taken - or who took it - but it must have been in the early days of their life together.  It's one of my favourites.  They look so happy and carefree - it's impossible not to smile with them ……………………...
