Fighting For The Herd
Travel Diary:
Today we went on a tour of the Addo elephant national park. We went with someone the hostel had contacted, he picked us up from port Elizabeth and drove us around the park. We ended up spending about 5 hours or more in the park, which was great. We saw plenty of elephants, witnessed a fight between two big males, as one pushed another from the herd. We also saw buffalo, so two out of the big five, not bad. Other than that, a lot of Kudo, Warthog, mongoose (again, fighting, but this time with a kestrel or something similar!), meerkats, a load of other bok, zebra, tortoise.
In this photo:
Two young males. The one in centre is pushing the one of the right out of the herd. The other elephants had moved on and these were left behind fighting. The fight went on for a long time as we watched, they carried on down the road, blocking out way. We kept a good distance but at one point our tour guide had to reverse pretty hastily. Great to watch! Eventually they disappeared into the jungle but we could still hear them trumpeting angrily.
