A Minor Hitch

Good eeevening,

Ladies and gentlemen, I have discovered the "Jones" channel in a big way. Here in New Zealand it is the premier source of classic televised entertainment. Such treasures as "The High Chaparral", "Hawaii 5-0" and "CHiPs" can be found on there.

Perhaps one day we shall even be treated to "BJ & The Bear".

However, my latest favourite is "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", in which the venerable old gentlemen introduces macabre short stories of suspense. I love this sort of thing, you know.

My favourite part is his acerbic reference to his "sponsors". Along the lines of, "This story was, of course, entirely fictional but now our sponsors will present you with nothing but the truth about their products."

I have mentioned the very similar "Tales of the Unexpected" before. But I was also very fond of "Night Gallery" and "The Twilight Zone"* as well. And of course, there were all those creaky Amicus movies starring Peter Cushing featuring short stories about killer pianos** and haunted mirrors.

I hear that Jordan Peele is bringing "The Twilight Zone" back. And while I have a great deal of respect for his talent, I can't help but feel these stories work best in the 20th century. With over-wrought acting, and preferably in black and white.

So that is my little diversion for today. I hope you enjoyed my Alfred Hitchcock impersonation. My Dear Princess & Dear Fellows, I shall be back tomorrow after this word from our sponsors...

* "The Invaders", "Third From The Sun", "Eye of the Beholder" and "Living Doll" were my favourite episodes.

** I'm not making this up.
