Trains connected with perfect timing. A coffee at Perth, then time to visit a couple of shops in Aberdeen.

How nice when travel goes perfectly to plan, I thought, before getting on the boat for the final leg to Orkney.

Unfortunately after sailing fot only 30 minutes we had to return to Aberdeen with a sick crew member. On a smooth crossing some of the time lost could probably be made up. But this trip was not so smooth. The boat finally reached Kirkwall two and a half hours late. We were a green and weary bunch disembarking. Very pleased to have finally arrived!
