Sashiko
Such a pleasant morning at a workshop introducing sashiko ¬ a traditional Japanese hand sewing technique which was used to patch and reinforce clothing.
We started with careful measuring and marking of the fabric. Then, with special needle and thread we made lines of running stitches. It was a surprisingly calming and peaceful process, (less so the measuring stage), and we were all completely absorbed. We were all noticing the clock and knowing the session must end but no-one wanted to stop. That familiar craft worker's feeling of 'just one more row'....
A bit of work, and a jive practice and natter filled the remainder of a very satisfactory Saturday.
