Heartwood
Spent an hour this afternoon in Walterboro, South Carolina. This tiny town, with it's share of Southern History, is the home of South Carolina's Artisan Center. This photo is of a small portion of the top of a table made from a beautiful slice of native wood. We are spending a quiet evening (if you don't count the the Basketball Game on our TV and the little screamers in the next room) in Manning, SC. In 1865, during the U.S. Civil War, much of this town was destroyed by Union troops. Ironically, the almost total destruction took place just a few days before General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox, ending the war. Tomorrow we head to Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Another 8 hour day in the car! We don't leave at the 'crack of' and like to get to our destination before dark. :)
* 17 more days before Fletcher comes home.
