Diary of an Edinburgher

I spy...

The man from the council came to sign off the renovations. Funnily enough, that only took a couple of weeks since we told them work was completed. But when we wanted them to come and check the beams before boxing in, they didn’t reply and they could not be contacted. They caused a lot of stress. It took the man about 5 minutes, looking at the beams, turning on the taps, changing the extraction fan exit on the architect's drawings. I refrained from asking him why we didn’t get the same efficiency a couple of months ago.

Also rang the fireplace folk. The wood burner is burning its last wood here. They needed to know how old the flue was, my guess wasn’t good enough. But I found an old receipt from the chimney cleaning and remembered that they had installed the fire. I rang them, and they confirmed that it was installed in 2010, which means that the flue won’t need replacing. Good. We're getting a gas fire. With remote. A much better idea for the years ahead. I'm fed up with logs and coal and mess. AND we gain a shed and a cupboard.

Our neighbour popped in with George and Lola, on their way back from their romp in the Links. The doggies are going back to their original owner tomorrow.

We popped up the hill with Archie, then I drove home via the hardware shop. JR and Archie had a big long walk. In this photo (by JR) he's just spied five pugs coming his way.

I got some wee brass screws and began adding the new (old) finger plates to the doors, but got fed up after one door (both sides). There's always tomorrow...
