Scatness Training

A chilly wind, but warm in the sunny spells.  A cloudy afternoon, and showers coming in this evening.

My Saturday on at the museum, but the morning was spent at Old Scatness.  I got to the museum after lunch, and a busy afternoon.  The chess championship was on, and also a gallery talk by local artist Dirk Robertson.  Walkies with Sammy, before the rain started, and then off out with friends later.

After our training session with Val Turner on Tuesday, this morning was on site training with half the group.  Local archeologist Chris Dyer, explained more of the site and took us on the tour, and hopefully I will remember it all.  The main broch is the oldest, dating nearly 2,500 years old, with the site in constant use until the Vikings. Even the croft houses built next door will probably be stones from the site.  Here is Chris giving us the tour, starting in the replica wheelhouse, with the peat fire burning.  At back L-R - Deborah Lamb, Neville Martin, Linda Nicholson, Zuzanna O'Rouke, ?? and Chris Dyer.  Taken at Old Scatness Village, Sumburgh.
