Carol Concert

Every year at Al's school they do a big christmas carol concert at a local church. Betsy did it for the past three years, but though Al is now old enough, I did not think he would be interested in doing it.

However, he announced a couple of weeks ago that he had joined the choir and was going to take part. He joined a bit late, and had quite a lot of catching up to do. His dyslexia also means that leaning things like song words can be very hard, and I knew he would have to learn by heart even the few songs they are allowed song sheets for.

Add to that the fact that a lot of carols have a huge amount of unfamiliar and old fashioned words in like sungen, rungen and verily, and lines like, 'abhorring the not virgins womb' and I knew he would have his work cut out to learn 15 sings in about a fortnight. But he did, and he did so well? I felt very proud.

Singing is one of the things his school does really well, and I was so glad he took part.

Betsy's school disco was cancelled (the DJ was sick apparently) so she was able to come. She had a friend to tea and they sat on their own in the church with a load of their old friends who have younger brothers and sisters in the choir. They are getting very grown up now :(. But at least I still have one baby singing 'Away in a Manger'.
