Snow Flowers

It was bitterly cold, but bright and sunny first thing so we went up to the moorland in search of Mountain Hares and Ravens. The conditions were unusual in that there wasn't a breath of wind and the accumulated snow on the plants and trees along the path beside the plantation had sprouted frost crystals, making many of them look like flowers. Unfortunately, by the time we got to moorland ridge a fog had closed in and visibility became very poor. We did at least see a couple of Red Grouse, and heard a flock of Pink-footed geese chattering to each other through the haze before we threw in the towel and returned home for some warming lunch.
