Not A great Start
The making of the miniature birdhouse went fine.
Even the cutting, planing and shaping of the oak shelf went okay.
It was when I decided to put together the routing table (which has been in a box for a couple of years) to round off the shelf edges that things started going wrong.
The instructions and diagrams were rubbish and the nuts and bolts etc. were not in the numbered bags as they should have been, but mixed up.
Also some of the holes weren't particularly well aligned.
I also that that a foot long power lead was a tad on the short side, but more a niggle than a problem.
However, I wasn't too impressed when I found that neither of my routers fitted as per the instructions - one is too big (despite having the base plate of the size allegedly required) and the other is too small. With a bit of ingenuity (for want of a different description) that one fitted. What really hacked me off though was the fact that both of them are too tall for the length of the legs when attached to a workbench ….. oh! - and you can't use it for wood wider than 8cm because the feather boards don't move out far enough so they have to be removed.
To sum up - you need a miniature router with a standard sized base and be prepared to take bits off it to use 'normal' sized bits of wood.
Back to the drawing board tomorrow.
On the up side we got a visit from Bags and family and a phone call from No1 son and our ray of sunshine.
