This Is Who I Am

This evening, on International Migrants Day, we hosted our last work event of the year. ‘This Is Who I Am’ presented first hand accounts of LGBT+ people seeking asylum in the UK; collected, transcribed and read by Ice & Fire and Actors for Human Rights. Powerful, moving, upsetting, anger-inducing, awe-inspiring.

There was also a Q&A session and performances of poems and songs by members of Liverpool’s own support group for LGBT+ people who are seeking asylum or who have been granted status, ‘Many Hands, One Heart’ - who the event was a fundraiser for.

It may actually prove to be our last work event ever, if we don’t manage to raise the funds we need by the end of January. But we’re still working hard to prevent that worst case scenario from happening.

We were pleased that our funding crisis was the top story on BBC Radio Merseyside news bulletins this morning and our Co-Chair, Richard, and I did a live interview on the Breakfast Show which generated quite a bit of interest. I then did another interview for local cable channel Liverpool TV. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the money will come!
