One Crowded Hour

Reely cool

Off to the Kookaburra Outdoor Cinema tonight to see The Sapphires.
First, a picnic and then as night fell, lolling in carried, comfy chairs (as opposed to the ranks of low slung, trendy but mightily uncomfortable deck chairs) and blankets for swaddling as the forecast was for cold.
Fantastic film and based on a true story about four Aboriginal sisters and cousins who...wait for it...traveled to and entertained American troops in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Brilliant music, acting and a lovely 'photo album' at the final credits of the original 'Sapphires' as they were and as they are now.

On the way out, sneaked a peak in the projectionist's shed and surprised to see giant reels of film still providing this lovely couple of hours of pleasure. Not for long though according to the film fella..it will be digital very soon.

Takes me back to my time in Namibia where a big Saturday night was to hire projector and reels of films (no telly back then) from a very dodgy bloke who kept prattling on about 'very adult films!' only to find it was 'No Sex Please, We're British!'
Don't think he had seen the film, just read the title.
