Icicled Winkle!

Flushed with success after my sub zero run this morning (-2.5) I arrived home, showered and had started breakfasting when I attempted to upload my run but they appeared to be doing some routine web site maintenance - how selfish!!

Last year I had stopped running by this point due to the cold and was using the dreadmill for my running. Over the last few months I have been preparing for today by purchasing various pieces of cold weather kit - merino buff, running tights, thermal t-shirt, mittens, wooly tammy and thick socks. I really thought that I had everything covered.

So there I was, a couple of miles in and enoying the freshness of the morning. It was so cold that my outer layer had started to get iced over and the water was turning to ice in my platypus tube. However, I was warm enough to take my mittens off. Not every part of my body was as warm though, turns out that running tights designed to be worn without undergarments may in some circumstances lead to an icicled winkle which is uncomfortable enough but pales into significance compared to the defrosting of said icicle when back home (think back to your childhood when you spent a couple of hours building snow men and throwing snowballs, then your mum called you in for a mug of hot chocolate - do your remember how that searing pain when your fingers came back to life............)

Time to buy some shorts to go over the running tights I think :)
