Yagan

On a very wet Thursday we decided to catch the train and go into the City, we visited the newly opened Yagan Square consisting of coffee bars, shops and fountains, standing in the centre of the square was the statue of Yagan, a young Noongar warrior who was killed in 1833 after his retaliation to the British Colonial Settlement back in the day, his head was transported back to London, after almost a century to was sent on to a museum in Liverpool, later to be buried in an unmarked grave amongst other remains. In 2010 Yagans head was sent back to Australia after much debate by the Noongar people, who insisted it be returned for religious beliefs also Yagans stature, he was a hero to his people, after 177 years he has now been layed to rest in the Swan Valley, a very fitting place for such a brave young indigenous man.
(extras) We spent some time in the old fire station now a museum, the building was built in 1899, it still stands between many modern buildings, a nice view between the pillars at the back of the old fire station.
We passed a hotel with a golden monkey climbing its walls, there must be a story behind that but i have yet to find it.
a very interesting day, not as dull as the weather thats for sure, i love it finding stories about the past, there is a story on every street corner in the City of Perth.
