Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Market Day. Again.

The mist in the valley took a long time to clear this morning, but we knew it meant a fine day. And we weren’t in any hurry - it was Big Market Day - the whole town was full of stalls, and we were just going for a wander... via the cafe with the brioche aux fruits, bien sûr!

Interesting to wander round the market, just looking. We find the prices quite expensive for most things (has the £ dropped against the €?) The smells at the olive counter, and the herbes stall were wonderful. Bread and cheese were purchased for lunch on our balcony.

We have been waiting for the boarding passes for the return journey to be made available. Talk about last minute! First it was supposed to arrive on the 11th (late enough), then the 13th. Been waiting all day, and it eventually arrived this afternoon. But only the Nimes-Stansted leg. Not the Stansted-Edinburgh one!

By this time the Tourist Info was shut till Monday, but I’d spotted a photographer's shop and we went in there. After a while, he understood, and printed off the one lot. Actually 'Google Translate' is brilliant! He shut at 7pm, so we hung around at the pub up the road, waiting for the promised boarding passes to arrive before then. They did not. I HATE RyanAir. We'll have to find a place to print them tomorrow (our last day) when lots of the shops are shut. Perhaps our landlady can help...

It's been so wet in Edinburgh Archie had to go out with his hated red coat on! But he went out with Elizabeth, so he didn’t really care.
