Starting as we mean to go on.
Woke up to a lovely sunny day. It was quite cool first thing, but by the time we'd had a leisurely breakfast, it had warmed up a bit, and we set off to walk from the cottage across RSPB Aldringham Walks to North Warren. Common Darters were out in force and after a short stop to buy some home grown tomatoes from a path side table with an honesty jar, we came to the North Warren fen viewing platform - one of my favourite spots, especially on a sunny day. Across the fen we saw Buzzards, a Hobby, a Marsh Harrier and a flock of unidentified waders. There were more dragonflies - Hawkers - and a good range of butterflies as we continues onto a heathy area and then into the woods - Small Coppers, Meadow Browns, a Comma, a Red Admiral but most exciting for us was this White Admiral, which was a first for both of us. I tweeted Minsmere to find out how common they were here. It turns out they are not unusual earlier in the Summer, but to see one this late is remarkable and probably a very unusual second brood. One our homeward route, we saw quite a lot of fungi - Fly Agarics, Blushers, Tawny Grisettes to name just a few. A fantastic day out!
