bronzewing...

...described as a 'heavily built pigeon'! this  'Bronzewing Pigeon' with his yellow-white forehead is certainly showing off his bronze wing. At the moment the lads are puffed up and strutting their stuff as spring is almost here.

How can those feathers have such a metallic sheen?
Well apparently it is all to do with iridescence 'caused by the microscopic structure of the feather barbules. The refraction works like a prism, splitting the light into rich, component colors. As the viewing angle changes, the refracted light becomes visible in a glowing, shimmering iridescent display.'

Wow.
Nature never fails to be wondrous.
