Remparts les Tourelles
We’ve covered some miles today exploring Dieppe, I went out early in the hope of catching the sunrise but it was way over the other side of the port and although I could see the colours in the sky it was blocked by the Cliffs. Nevertheless I walked to the port and back while Alan was still asleep.
We went back to the port for breakfast and sat outside a little bar where we had a pain au chocolate and a coffee/hot chocolate, and then we set off wandering. We even walked up to the chateau and along the top of the Cliffs where we found some World War 2 bunkers. It’s amazing to think that these are actually facing Brighton only 70 miles away across the Channel.
The weather's been mixed today, it started off sunny with no wind which wasn’t good for the kite festival, but then it went cloudy and felt a lot cooler. We were going to go and find the guys that we met on the ferry to see their pink dragon kite, but we actually bumped into them at the chateau! They send it wasn’t windy enough so they hadn’t bothered but tomorrow is the main day so they’ll be there then. The wind did build up in the afternoon though and more kites appeared and we sat and watched an amazing display of 30 kites which they said was a record.
Our wandering has been broken up with the odd beer/wine stop and tonight we’ve been to a lovely restaurant on the beach to celebrate our wedding anniversary which is on Tuesday.
My Blip today is of one of the last remaining gateways into the town, there were originally 7 of them built into the remparts which were connected to the chateau and date back the the XV century. I’ve added an extra showing the front of the gate and a night shot taken through it.
Anyway, it’s the weekend, hope you have a good one!
