Fall Color at Spring Lake
The color in this tree is poison oak which is already turning bright red. The grass looked particularly golden instead of just tired and dead. Above the grass is a glimpse of the lake with a yellow raft on it in the distance.
The air is smoky today giving the whole view a certain mistiness although it is anything but misty. It was just announced that the Carr fire has finally, after five weeks, been 100% contained, so It is possible that the winds are blowing the smoke from the fires to the north out to sea only to be blown back inland here by the offshore winds.
California is enacting some stringent standards for 100% independence from fossil fuel which is certainly important, but climate change is not a local or even a national problem, it is a global problem. Pollution doesn't affect only the polluters. It affects all of us except our president and his cronies. He may be able to sit in his golden tower and ignore the obvious but I can only hope that his isolation, issuing sour bitter tweets and playing golf yesterday, while two former presidents, the former Vice President, even Donald Jr. and Ivanka Trump attended John McCain's funeral, are some sort of harbinger of what is to come. Barack Obama said it best:
So much of our politics, our public life our public discourse can seem small and mean and petty, trafficking in bombast and insult, in phony controversies and manufactured outrage. It's a politics that pretends to be brave but in fact is born of fear....
And Meghan McCain:
The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great.
