Derwent Water

Our club headed to the Lake District in Cumbria today.  Because of motorways, it is sometimes just as easy to get across the border as it is to travel north, so once a year we venture into England for our walk.

On the way down we stopped at the Rheged Centre near Penrith (see extra), and had a nice break with rolls and sausage, etc.

Then we travelled to Portinscale, where we started our walk.  We walked on the Cumbria Way to Hawes End, and then followed a path to Brandelhaw Park, and had our lunch at Abbot's Bay looking out over the loch and watching the ferry ply its trade up the lake.

We then headed uphill on to the Atterdale Ramble Path, above Derwent Water, and followed it along above the lake back to Hawes End, and then back to Portenscale where our coach was waiting. 

Had a nice social hour in the hotel there before hitting the road north.

We left home in wet weather, and actually started the walk in a drizzle, but during the day it gradually cleared, and ended up with some sunshine.  A great day out.
