Flying the flag

Getting close to holiday's end! A full day today - the Botanic Garden at Samarès Manor in the morning, followed by a visit to Gorey to see the famous Mont Orgueil Castle and a final visit to Durrell Zoo.

The Botanic Gardens are privately owned by the Seigneur de Samarès, Vincent Obbard. I met him accidentally and unknowingly when we first arrived. An older couple were leading two horses across the grass - sacrilege darling! - so I asked him what the horses were doing there. 'They live here', he replied. Only later did I find out who he was!

Gorey is beautiful. We didn't go inside the castle, but admired it from the seafront while strolling along with ice creams! I don't know who the flag waving gentlemen were. A beautiful beach with only a few sunbathers. One day to go.

My extra today is one of the Andean bears at Durrell, trying to impress his friend the mallard!
