Images of Dresden (1)

Dresden is a remarkable city. It was totally flattened just before the end of the 2nd World War, 25,000 of its civilian citizens were killed and all its beautiful buildings were reduced to rubble. As much of the stone as possible was saved and carefully numbered and most of the buildings have now been faithfully restored, but the process has taken a considerable time and the continuing existence of cranes points to the fact that it is not yet over. What is striking is the relative absence of tourists compared with other cities.
