At Meissen
Today should be a short day's ride, and so we head back into Meissen to see the magnificent cathedral, set up high above the town. There is a bridge across the Elbe in Meissen, and the next one is at Dresden, our destination, although there are plenty of ferries. The Elbe is a big river, but because it is shallow there is no working boat traffic bar the ferries and a few tourist boats and the river has a glass like feel to it. Before we know what has happened we are in the middle of Dresden looking for a way back across the Elbe and a route back to our accommodation which turns out to be at the top of a long and fairly steep hill. Hans is surprised that we have arrived by bike. He built his house on a very steep slope above the road, and with the help of his partner, Stein, has created a magnificent terraced garden which is alive with butterflies. There are 100 steps from the road to the house in which we were staying.
