Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2018 Thursday — Estero Bay

We woke to this view this morning and were quite surprised because yesterday was shrouded in fog. Then sometime after 1:00 the southern landscape was lost in fog. No longer could we see Morro Rock.

Often the fog settles in the south portion of this big Estero Bay, similar to the famous Monterey Bay north of us, where the fog bypasses Santa Cruz and hugs the communities of Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Carmel.

Mid-afternoon we put the pups in their cages here in the house, and we headed out for an adventure that would include food. We knew that finding parking under some shade to keep the pups cool would be unlikely.

“Seeing the water” is always our priority; however, there are only a few restaurants in Cayucos that have a view of water. So Mr. Fun suggested we look to see if we could get two spots at the bar at Schooners Restaurant & Bar, which is upstairs overlooking the beach at the pier.

Two spots were not available, but a table for two just outside the bar on the patio was so we each ordered a beverage and after a long look at the menu we each ordered a meal. (I ate half of mine and brought the other half home.) While our food was being prepared, the fog approached at a steady pace; the pier appeared shorter and shorter and soon we could not see its end. Ah, the fog!

I reminded Mr. Fun, who needed no reminding, “We have our best summers in January.” And then I ate my late lunch, savoring every bite.
