Old soldier of the woods !!
In Rectory Park, sandwiched between two of the football pitches, there is a narrow strip of land where all the deciduous trees are preparing to hibernate for the Winter. There are many magnificent specimens of oak. Some with girths of over 15 feet.
Meanwhile this fella must have had a very checkered history.. It is not really known what happened for the tree to be in the final stages of it's life. The uppermost branches still showed branches with a few leaves. It is continuing to hang on - albeit precariously !
Rectory Park itself has some historical significance. The Rectory - long since gone - was the home of The Reverend Bedford. A well known, respected and infuential man living there towards the end of the 19th Century. Follow this link -->>History of Rectory Park
