Airing Your Dirty Laundry in Public
It’s the time of the year for laundering the winter portion of the duvet, but it’s an expensive business. Our local dry-cleaners (whose prices are average for the area) charge around £20 to launder a double duvet. However, we now have an ‘al-fresco launderette’ which arrived outside our local supermarket a couple of months ago. (see extra for a view of the whole machine). B and I went along on this sunny evening to try it out. It’s dead easy to use, the price includes washing detergent, the wash takes 30 minutes and the tumble dry 15 minutes, then I hung it over the clothes horse in the conservatory overnight to finish off.
The whole thing cost just £6…what a bargain. Not to mention the opportunity to sit on the nearby bench, eat an ice-cream and have a chat at the same time…perfect.
The glass sides of the attached shelter depict images of laundry items and these created rather attractive shadows on my duvet as it was gently tumbling dry.
I don’t want the local dry-cleaners to go out of business, it’s a dear little shop and they do a really good job but at a price difference of £14 it’s just too much of a price difference to ignore.
