As For YOU, Troy Donahue...

BUT.

NOW.

THERE'S.

NOWHERE TO HIIIIIDE SINCE YOU PUSHED MY LOVE ASIIIIIIDE.

I'M.

OUT OF MY HEAD.

HOPELESSLEEEE DEV-OH-TED TO YOOOOOOOOOO...

Oh hello.

My Dear Princess Normal and Dear Fellows, you caught me off guard, in the middle of breaking into song there.

The reason is that Er Indoors and I just watched part one of "Olivia: Hopelessly Devoted To You"; a two-part television EVENT about the life of the musical GENIUS that is Olivia Newton-John.

We get quite a few telly movies from Australia shown on NZ tv. You are so missing out.

Er Indoors and I are loving it. We love a good music biog from "Ray" to "Coal Miner's Daughter" to "Waterfalls: The True Story of TLC". But we were both hesitant about this one because Olivia seems a bit bland.

I know, this is probably unfair. But that WAS her image at the time.

And the thing is, in the movie she is played by Delta Goodrem who I think was in "Neighbours" or "Home & Away" at some point. Delta is a singer/songwriter, and her image is also of someone who does not swear and whose farts smell of bright summer sunshine. So, you know, that's bland playing bland. Or bland².

However, although Olivia comes across as nothing but lovely we are enjoying it anyway. There's a scene of her on the "It's Cliff Richard!" show in 1973 with actual 1970's Cliff, which was a HOOT. And then there's the music...

I looooooove yoooooo... I honestly loooooove yoooooo...

I don't know what it is about over-wrought, over-dramatic love songs, but I do love them. This is probably why my favourite singers are kd lang, Linda Ronstadt, Joan Osborne and Dusty Springfield with the occasional Marc Almond in there as well. I love the fact they tell BIG stories and make sweeping arm gestures as they decry their cruel fate.

Livvy didn't do that so much, I suppose. Although "Hopelessly Devoted To You" is a fine exception. Anyway, Er Indoors and I have learned new things about Olivia and now we are very excited about Part 2 which includes "Xanadu".
