Not the plan

I took Mr C into Cramlington for his pacemaker in good time for his 11am appointment. Then I drove home to await his call for me to pick him up. It was to be a one hour op with only local anaesthetic and the plan was he’d come home today.

He called to say he would get done between 3 and 3.30. When I had not heard from him by 6 to say when I was to pick him up, I was getting anxious. (Well I’d been more anxious than him anyway)

He eventually called to say things had not gone quite to plan and he was being kept in overnight. Apparently his collar bone was not suitably placed for them to get the wires inserted easily so the procedure took 2 hours and he was a bit battered by the end. There is some fluid round his heart that had to be monitored.

Hopefully things will settle down and he’ll be calling in the morning for me to taxi him home.
