Cuddies

My Dear Princess & Dear Fellows,

Another film day today. Me and Er Indoors and the cats settled in for a lazy day while the wind howled outside.

This picture is a close up of the pouffe that Jasper likes to sit on. It's adjacent to the radiant heater and he loves to flop up there. I thought when I took a picture of it up close, the pattern would look interesting and intriguing. It did not occur to me that you'd also be able to see that it has cat hair all over it.

I am rubbish at Blip. I'm failing Blip. It's official.

My favourite film today is a film that NO-ONE appears to have heard of. Seriously, I mention the film "Hidalgo" to people and they look at me like I have just sneezed.

Have YOU heard of this film? See? And I don't know why. It is a GREAT film.

It is all about the real, true-life story of a long-distance horsey rider in the Old West who goes to the Middle East to compete in a cross-the-desert horsey race.

Weeeeeell. When I say "true" I mean "based on truth". And when I say "based on truth" I mean "probably mostly b*llocks probably".

But let's not let that ruin a perfectly good film. "Hidalgo" is AWESOME. If you imagine "Lawrence of Arabia" crossed with "Dances With Wolves" crossed with Indiana Jones, that's "Hidalgo".

Er Indoors loved it the first time we saw it. And she loved it again today. Fortunately she has no memory for movies she has seen at all. I don't know how she does it. She has always been like this:

ME: You LOVED this movie. Remember...?
ER:  Ummmm.... is it the one with Al Pacino where he's a cop?
ME: Noooo...  Literally. This is one of your very favourite films. It stars Tom Cruise. Who is your favourite actor. And you've seen it about five times. We watched it last week.
ER: Is Brian Dennehy in it? Does he play the Commander at a naval facility?
ME: Did we watch that last week?
ER: No.
ME: Well then... "No"...

Sometimes I wish I were Er Indoors. Every time she watches a film it is like she has never seen it before. Apart from "Avengers: Age of Ultron".

ER: Is this effing "Avengers: Age of Ultron"???
ME: No.
ER: It better NOT be.

But anyway. She didn't remember "Hidalgo" at ALL. Which means she was on the edge of her seat the whole time and had to be reassured about the horsey's safety*.

And at the end we both had a bit of a cry, but not in the "Marley & Me" way, in the "AwwwWWWW, that is SOOOOO lovely!" way.

I get a bit emotional about animals. Shut up. Just shut up.

So yes. "Hidalgo". And no, I HAVEN'T sneezed.

S.

* The horsey does get hurt at one point, but he gets better, so we managed to get through it ok. I couldn't have watched it if Trigger had a whole "Ring Of Bright Water" moment at the end.
