Male Bullfinch
Moving on in a staged return home. Today the destination was Gartfairn a Caravan and Motorhome Club "certified Location" on a farm near Balmaha. We like CLs, when we started caravaning as all that was guaranteed was a tap and waste disposal with no more than 5 vans on site. They still have no more than 5 vans (the real attraction for us) but now have luxuries such as electric hook ups.
Having arrived and settled in we had a quick look at Loch Lomond before heading for the RSPB reserve just down the road from our site. Recently aquired it doesn't as yet have much in the way of facilities. While we were chatting to the staff the male Bullfinch was feeding on Sunflower seeds on the gate post a few yards away.
We enjoyed our time wandering through the woods which in a week or two will be a carpet of blue from the Bluebells. The seats placed here and there had some really talented carving of woodland creatures as the ends and a leaf with the English and Gaelic name on the back board. The highlight of the visit wasn't ornithological it was the 4 Roe Deer grazing in the fields below.
One of the staff was a Land Rover enthusiast, so "the mate" gave him a conducted tour of the LR while Clickychick and I continued to talk wildlife and birds to the other two RSPB staff.
