Pez

Pez is the brand name of an Austrian candy and associated mechanical candy dispensers. The candy is a pressed, dry, straight-edged, curved-corner block, with Pez dispensers holding 12 Pez pieces.  MrsDB  brought me some back from her shopping trip today - probably to pave the way to telling me she'd spent a small fortune on bedding plants!  We both reminisced about how, as children we'd collect the different dispensers and swap them with school mates.  (I am assuming that it's still OK to talk about the past on here?  If the skulking Blipsnitcher is offended; good).  Anyway, moving on to matters much more important...

The name PEZ is an abbreviation of PfeffErminZ (German for peppermint). ... The first Pez mint dispensers, known as "regulars," were similar in shape to a cigarette lighter, and dispensed an adult breath mint marketed as an alternative to smoking.

My first Pez dispenser was in the shape of Goofy and thus started a collection of Disney characters.  Amazingly these 1950's dispensers are highly collectible.  I probably swapped mine for a Dinky toy or a tattered copy of Health and Efficiency.  I'm not sure if I mentioned that to MrsDB.

I started to refill my dispenser with its third pack of PEZ but found it tedious having to eat them one at a time.  It's much easier to split a pack and crunch and munch a mouthful.
