Hungry Blackbird

Meet one of my new garden friends who appears each time I open the kitchen door. Maybe she has become used to my usually having a few titbits of food or crumbs to hand and will leave them readily accessible for a hungry blackbird.

Mind you, home for the time being is a nest in one of the trees in the garden, along with her brood of three young ones who regularly follow her around anxious to be fed.

When I cut the grass last week their seemingly remarkable hearing located every worm to be found moving just below the surface.

After days of rain, the grass needs cutting again, but that isn’t preventing the blackbirds becoming almost tame in their approach, and this one wasn’t afraid to pose for my camera this afternoon.

There will be more titbits in the morning, and they have come to expect it.
