Usnea.
Rather surprisingly we managed to get away in the 8:00 - 9:00 slot we had set ourselves. The M6 had rained when we joined it and it continued up to and past the M8. Gradually as we moved north the weather cleared and by the time we were on the A9 it was really quite pleasant. By the time we were nearing Killiecrankie it was really rather pleasant.
By this time we were looking for a suitable lay-by for lunch. We much prefer to be slightly away from all the passing traffic rather than right beside the carriage way. Seeing a P sign and a road leading off "The Mate" sung the Land Rover into it. He assumed it was a Forestry Commission parking area. Well it was Forestry Commission but it was a logging road! Fortunately about 400 m in there was a wide "turning area". So we had a lovely quite park and lunch. The lichens on the trees were amazing (my primitive knowledge of lichen genuses (what is the plural of genus?) had them as Usnea & Evernia) some of the Usnea where 30 cm long.
The rest of the trip was in lovely weather with us arriving at the Auchnahillin Holiday park. We tend to like little CL sites but "The Mate" had used this before. It turned out to be brilliant, the touring site is separate from the statics and we were with only one other occupant. The shower block is the best of any site I have visited and I have been using camping and caravan sites since my teens.
