Ospreys

The weather forecast promised us a hot day today so we had planned to do our butterfly transects. By 11 it was still very overcast and windy, so on the way we stopped at Foulshaw to visit the Ospreys. The viewing point is a really long way from the nest but the head of the female was just about visible, she is sitting on eggs.
We went on to Roudsea Wood to check the Ospreys there, and were lucky to see the male flying in to the nest and the female getting up to greet him. All seems well there too.
The sky was finally trying to clear so we headed up over Gummers Howe, where a huge area of conifer felling has been done, and on to Howe Ridding.
There was some hazy sunshine finally and we saw Brimstone and Peacock. We always look out for bumblebees too, and Rob photographed one which turned out to be a Red Shanked Carder, something new for the reserve.
Back home, Andrew had made us curry for tea!
