Strange Rituals

In town today to collect the LandRover from its latest stay at the mender's,  and my new glasses. All of a sudden the world seems much brighter - but that could be because the sun actually appeared this morning.

My walk took me past the MacEwan Hall. Edinburgh University holds its graduation ceremonies there, and the carving above the door represents just that.  A student is about to be 'capped' - tapped on the head with a bonnet, reputedly made from the breeches of John Knox.  

The bonnet also contains a fragment of fabric which travelled with Edinburgh graduate Piers Sellers on one of his Space Shuttle trips.
