Diary of an Edinburgher

Bottomless ice cream!

It was such a lovely day, we decided to use our new Historic Scotland cards and go to Blackness Castle. And on the way pop into our favourite carvery with unlimited veges and bottomless ice cream. Actually, it was the other way round. We had planned to go and feast, but when it turned out such a nice day, we added in some culture and outdoor activity.

It was not to be. Even with the 'assistance' of Mr TomTom. We went to Ratho first. This is a great wee village by the canal with a nice pub and always lots going on in the boats. This red barge was coming v-e-r-y slowly through under the bridge. The two walkers appeared, sun glinting on the white haired heads, a nice red jacket, and so I took this one, even though the sun was in the wrong place!

From there we had our roast meal, seconds of veges and gravy, and then I managed my usual three bowls of ice cream. Of course, the 'bottomless ice cream' is rather clever wording, leading you (or maybe it's just me) to subconsciously think that you will NOT have a bottom if you eat lots of it: ie bottom-less, when actually, it's the opposite. Whatever, I was very very chilled inside for quite a while afterwards. Perhaps it's not such a good idea after all. Fantastic value though!

We told Mr TomTom where we were heading, but when we came to motorways, the road he suggested was CLOSED and a diversion had us heading to Glasgow! He didn't protest much, just now and again tried to get us to turn around, but we decided to give up and go another day.

I dropped JR in Morningside to 'walk off the big lunch'. My remedy is to come home and lie down.

Who or what is Henry? Many of you are puzzled. In April this year we did a house swap in Hove and looked after Henry, a miniature schnauzer. We fell in love with him. And the idea of having a dog. A dog just like him, in fact. Hence all the schnauzer shots whenever I see one.

I contacted Henry again (actually, Henry's mum) to see if he needed babysitting any time, and lo and behold, he does, after Christmas. His mum likes to go to London for short stays, and it's easier for someone to come and stay with Henry, than Henry having to go somewhere else, or even *gasp* kennels! So we're very excited. And we like that area too for a visit.

Right. Cup of coffee, Mr TiVo and a lie down!
