Pedras del Rei

There is a huge, long, beautiful, undeveloped beach off Tavira but it is on a long island separated from the land by the Rio Formosa (not really a river, more like a narrow version of the Solent). To get there you can either get a boat from near Tavira, or you can walk across a footbridge near Santa Luzia and then either take this little narrow-gauge train or walk next to the railway. The old locomotives no longer run on steam, they've been converted to diesel.
