passing the sniff test

This is Nutnik, a male version of Nutkin. Nutkin, as you remember, is the cute and friendly squirrel who comes to my back door to eat peanuts from my hand. Lately little mini versions of Nutkin have been doing the same. I surmise that they watched their mama get food this way and had no problem copying her. On the other hand, this adult male has skittered back and forth across my porch, with his tail quivering in terror, and has even touched the peanut in my hand without taking it - until today. Here he is, still wary of his prize. But finally he cracked it open and ate it. I wonder if he will be back tomorrow...
And I wonder how many blessings I miss due to misplaced fear...
