backlit memories

We are having a gorgeous sunny afternoon here that is really firing up our remaining fall leaves. These leaves are a flat red from the front, but when they are backlit there is so much detail!
And suddenly I was reminded of the lovely leaf collages I used to make with my mother when I was little. We would collect colorful fallen leaves and then iron them between two pieces of wax paper and hang our creation in the window to catch the light. I did this same thing with my two daughters when they were young.
Funny how a simple glimpse can bring back such a flood of warm memories!
