Going Walkabout

We were giving a lift to the local Metro station by our niece and headed into Washington.

The stations are great place to take pictures - especially with fisheye (this one is with a train going through).

We went straight to the hotel and left our case before going for a wander.
The hotel was just off The Mall which has The Capitol at one end and The Whitehouse and the other - two miles away. Roughly in the middle is the Smithsonian "Castle".  It is the Smithsonian that has its name attached to loads of the dozens of museums and art galleries around the city. Washington has to be the museum capital of the world!.

We only hit a couple of them ....... the Air & Space Museum and The National Geographic.
In the Air & Space we watched a film in the Imax on the development of transportation and plans for heading to Mars  --  in the National Geographic we went into the 3D interactive exhibition on the work done mapping and renovating  Christ's Tomb in Jerusalem .........excellent!
Then we went into the photographic exhibition of wildlife and nature by Nick Nicols  .... again, excellent.

By the time we got back to the hotel we were knackered - and cold! We had walked for miles (far too far really) and with the wind chill taken into consideration it was about -8 (but sunny).

Room service and an early night....................
