Day 58 - The Land of Haribo

We woke up at the B & B Hotel in Saarbrücken, right next to the train station. I had the last of Kirst's amazing cupcakes for my breakfast! Because I could! Yum! Before getting back into the van for another day of van time. We drove through a bit of France including Strasbourg to get to our final destination Bad Saulgau, Germany. A bit of the drive reminded me of where I live in Scotland. We drove round some windy windy mountains, it was really foggy but I can imagine the view on a sunny day would have been spectacular.

We arrived at the venue for our gig this evening which was brilliant! Franziskaner. We had our sound check then headed to an Italian for tea. It took us a few songs just to settle into the gig but once we got going the German audience was really appreciative all drinking away (mainly drinking Guiness!) happily bopping along to our music. I had a brilliant time on and off the stage.

We were in what can only be described as a German come old fashioned Irish pub. With hundreds of memorabelia/brick a brac.... (it was like walking into a car boot sale. As we went up stairs to the living room of the mans house who owns the pub the whole house was just cluttered with random things! A statue of liberty in his living room next to hundreds of golliewogs. A couple of "adult" massage DVD's...!!

In the middle of the kitchen blocking half of the cupboards he had a huge green peril grandfather clock... As well as Christmas decorations and a light up goose.... I swear I only had one glass of wine and this is all real life! I am not making this up!

After the gig the man showed us the top floor of his house where he stores 10,000 records... Casually on the wall hanging over the sofa was a dentists's lamp!! We asked if he used it and he said yeah, it just needs plugged in!!

A very bizarre place but somewhere I would probably return . A very friendly and appreciative audience and a great atmosphere.

We headed to the hotel we had been put up in for the night where (as Germany is the home of haribo) they had this little packet waiting for each of us on our pillows. Sleepy sheep haribo!! A brilliant end of a brilliant day. Back in the game...

This blip is dedicated to the queen of haribo. My Angela... :)
