The Ice Man Cometh
Dear Diary,
Well, I finally did it. I took the car out and went for a drive! It felt liberating to get away for an hour even if it was bitterly cold. I don't think it got over 28F all day! I did a couple of small errands in town and then stopped at my little pond to see what has been happening. Not surprisingly, the pond had a thin coating of ice on the southern end.
It was good to see the pond full after the fall rains and the water was crystal clear. The little patch of open water is where there is a small stream that enters the pond. It flows pretty much all winter and is a good place for birds to get a drink. No birds today though.
I do love the patterns newly formed ice makes, it looks a little like Saran Wrap in places. It contrasts well with the warm brown leaves that have fallen. Despite the frigid temperatures, it felt very good to be at the pond.
Matt wasn't able to come yesterday as he wasn't feeling well so there is no Christmas tree...yet. Stephanie is coming this morning to clean but I don't think she will have time to get the tree down as well. More exercise for my patience I guess. I do plan to take another drive after she leaves though. I want to get out every day and do something.
