River Avon
My sister in law had arranged for us to visit the registrar at 9.00am this morning. We arrived at the district council offices a bit early (expected a rush hour, it didn't happen on the route we took). So we went for a short walk.
I took this pic from one of the two bridges crossing the Avon, which splits into two branches as it enters Christchurch. Just after I took this a kingfisher flew across the river. The priory and remnants of the castle are visible from this spot.
We arrived back at the district council offices in good time but then had a long wait. Eventually C got a phone call to tell her that the registrar was ill, but they fixed us up with another appointment. It meant we had to drive ten miles to Ferndown and wait there. But we at least got the death certificate and "tell us once" service sorted.
The administrative complexity of a death in the family has surprised me. Necessary I guess, and keeping us occupied. And lots more still to do. In the midst of it all, a bit of an emotional maelstrom. The expected can be unexpected too.
