Living it up in the city......
We were in the city to celebrate the 75th birthday of our friend, who was over from Whitby, Ontario, for the event organised by his daughters (see extra photos). And we had some overnight guests as J and S were through from Dunfermline. We had a fine time, very noisy, but very happy, in Rab Ha's, in the Merchant City, one of the 'in' places it seems in Glasgow.
From the internet:
Rab Ha’ was a colourful Glaswegian figure, who was renowned for his feats of gluttony.Robert Hall, as his full name was, was famous for his enormous capacity for eating. He was able to make money for himself and others by taking bets on the amount of food he could consume. On one occasion he demolished an entire calf, which had been baked into pies.
He was said to have emerged victorious from an eating competition held at the Saracen's Head Inn against The Yorkshire Pudding, a challenger of similar appetite.
He died in a hayloft in Hutchesontown in 1843.
