Old friends

I reckon I first met the wonderfully monikered Hugo Pring in 1997, when he and his family moved to Kirkby Lonsdale. Our backgrounds are quite different but a shared love of music brought us together. (He is one of the (I think) three Bowie fans who have bought me a copy of ‘Hunky Dory’, in vain efforts to engage me with his pre-Berlin canon.)

For various and dull reasons, I’ve seen a bit less of him over the last two or three years but this evening we met up for a couple of pints in the Royal Barn. Boy, it was lovely to see him again! And we just clicked back into our friendship as if we’d only last done this a couple of weeks ago.

So, although we didn’t go to school together, it seemed appropriate to me that we were drinking this beer, brewed by the Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery; Tiffin Boys was the name of my school, so it always makes me mindful of past times.
