GGSA2017/Day One

It's that time of year once again when I meet up with my university chums - The Good Gang - for our annual Special Assignment, which, this year, is taking place in Shrewsbury.

No slaves to tradition, on this occasion we are opening events with a trip to the cinema, which is not only unprecedented in the history of the Special Assignment but, I think, in the thirty-two years that we have been friends. Imagine that; these friends I have had for over half my life and we've never all been to the flicks together!

However, today is the opening of 'Blade Runner 2049', and as firm fans of the original film - and let me state here, I actually prefer the noirish voiceover version - it seemed like an excellent opportunity for a group outing.

I met up with Bob and E - pictured above on Greyfriars Bridge - and we made our way to Cineworld where we met up with Ash and Ross. Actually, it would be more accurate to say that we met in a pub near the cinema; drinking forms a significant element in the alchemy of the Special Assignment.

Regarding the film, I will simply say that it is as good as all the reviews suggest and I would recommend you see it if you enjoyed the original film. And after the cinema trip we started on the list of pubs in Shrewsbury that Bob had collated. It was a splendid evening; the usual heady blend of nostalgia and new jokes and conversation.
