Goodbye to Number 8
I've been visiting number 8 for the last 37 years, ever since I met Janet. There I met Harry, her father who lived there, and after a few years her step-Mum Joan came to live there. Her grandmother, and Auntie Betty also lived nearby, as did uncle Walter and auntie Edith. We met the rest of the family there too, for festivals and occasions. There are many memories associated with number 8.
Joan is now 93 years old and has grown very frail so she has moved into a home. All the other named people have died relatively long ago, hence our task of sorting out and emptying the house. The job isn't done yet but it is much advanced and it feels time to hand over to the brothers for the next stage. So we have finished up here for this trip and the next time I'm in this part of the country the house may have passed on to new owners. That feels really strange, but it is all part of life's cycle.
Anyway, for this trip at least, and possible forever, it is goodbye to number 8.
